Enjoy 7 days in the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area, one of the world's premier
wilderness areas. Your trip will begin at Fort Nelson, B.C. where you
will be met at your motel by a driver who will take you on a 3½ hour scenic
drive to the Northern Rockies Lodge at Muncho Lake, B.C. From there you will
fly by floatplane to the base camp at Mayfield Lake, located in the Dune Za
Keyih Provincial Park, deep in the heart of the Muskwa-Kechika Management
Area. Hosts Wayne Sawchuk and Jerry Pavia will greet you at Mayfield Lake
and will orient you to your home for the next week. Stroll lakeside
paths, hike down to the Gataga River, relax in the lakeside sauna or canoe the
quiet waters of Mayfield Lake. Wildlife viewing is a daily occurrence so
be sure to bring binoculars. In the evenings, sit by the campfire, share
stories, howl at the moon or gaze into the darkness. In cool weather,
guests can gather around a fire in a traditional teepee. Wayne will be
available to give evening presentations on request, and Jerry will offer a free
digital imaging workshop throughout the week. You will enjoy gourmet
meals, prepared by experienced wilderness cooks and sleep in canvas wall tents
equipped with luxury bedding, comfortable beds and mosquito nets. If
interested, participants, at no extra cost, can take part in a two-day horse trip
into the alpine country. No horse riding experience is necessary,
however, a reasonable level of fitness is required for this portion of the
retreat. This is an all-inclusive trip. All you need is warm
clothes, raingear and alcoholic beverages (if desired).
