We work with citizens, business owners, non-profit organizations and governmental agencies to enhance community forests in the Spokane region.

Current projects:

  • Urban Forest Watch - We are collecting information about urban tree removal in the Spokane area and maintaining an inventory of mature conifers removed from our community
  • Tree Preservation CD is finished and now available, donations are appreciated!  If you are interested in obtaining a copy please contact Carrie Anderson.  The CD is user friendly, navigates like a webpage, and has documents and presentations for arborists, citizens, construction managers, and elected officials.

News:

  • Spokane Mayor Verner declares 2008 Year of Spokane's Urban Forest! On Monday, January 7th, Mayor Verner issued a proclamation to declare 2008 the Year of Spokane's Urban Forest. Carrie Anderson, Urban Forest Coordiantor, asked for the proclamation on behalf of the Urban Forest Council. Click here to read the entire proclamation.

Accomplishments:

  • Urban Logging Awareness Campaign
Our public education campaign used STA busboard posters to raise awareness about many of Spokane's healthy ponderosa pines being needlessly removed

  • Trees for Your Neigborhood
The Urban Forest Council won the Arbor Day Education Award in 2004 for the Adopt A Tree For Your Neighborhood Guidebook, a 63 page book, which give residents information on how to have successful planting efforts in neighborhoods and parks, in addition to selecting, planting and caring for their trees. Master Gardeners helped plant and provide hands-on instruction for the care of trees donated by local grants and businesses.
