Field Restoration Technician:

In this internship, you will learn vegetation and wildlife habitat restoration practices in a riparian setting: erosion control, reforestation, the use of genetically-local native species, removal of invasive species, herbivory protection , revegetation of disturbed areas, shading streams, and habitat improvement for targeted species.

Toxics Outreach Specialist:

In this internship, you will perform one-on-one outreach and education to the greater Spokane community (focusing on homeless, low-income, and ethnic individuals) on the health risks of Spokane River toxins. This outreach will be conducted primarily along the river and at homeless shelters/social service organizations.


Legislative Summit Coordinator

Position Details:

  • Duration: May 2, 2024, to June 27, 2024 (approximately 10-15 hours per week).

  • Location: Remote work, with occasional in-person meetings or events if feasible.

  • Compensation: A stipend of $1000, disbursed in two installments ($500 upfront, $500 upon completion).

Objective: As a Legislative Summit Coordination Intern, you will play a vital role in facilitating the organization and successful execution of The Lands Council's Legislative Summit. This event, held on June 21st in conjunction with Expo 74’s 50th year anniversary celebrations, aims to foster dialogue and action on key environmental issues within our community and beyond.

Responsibilities:

  1. Summit Planning and Coordination:

    • Assist in the logistical planning and coordination of The Lands Council Legislative Summit.

    • Collaborate with team members to develop the event agenda.

    • Manage communication with speakers, panelists, and attendees, providing necessary information and support leading up to the event.

  2. Outreach and Promotion:

    • Support the promotion of the Legislative Summit through various channels, including social media, email newsletters, and partner organizations.

    • Identify potential sponsors or partners for the event and assist in outreach efforts to secure their participation or support.

  3. Content Development:

    • Assist in the development of materials such as talking points and informational resources to be distributed during the summit.

    • Conduct research on relevant legislative issues and policy proposals to inform summit discussions and workshops.

  4. Event Support:

    • Provide on-site support during the Legislative Summit, assisting with registration, participant engagement, and any logistical needs that may arise.

    • Help facilitate breakout sessions or workshops as needed, ensuring a smooth flow of activities throughout the event.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Interest in environmental advocacy and legislative processes.

  • Previous experience in event planning or coordination is preferred but not required.
