Spokane County is contracting with TLC on a riparian restoration/BDA installation project on Dartford Creek (in the Little Spokane River watershed). We completed the planting portion of this project in April, which consisted of 210 potted seedlings and 300+ willow stakes. During the last week of May, we installed the posts for a complex of seven beaver dam analogs (BDAs). These structures are meant to slow the heavy, erosive forces of the creek; settle sediment out of the water column; gradually re-connect the deeply-incised channel with its floodplain; and help protect adjacent infrastructure. We’ve secured a source for brush/weave material and will be completing the job this summer. Stay tuned for photos!
