Over the last several years, The Lands Council has been fostering the discussion and production of biochar within our Eastern Washington forests. Biochar - a long lasting, high carbon content material that can be produced from forest “waste” material - has been shown to reduce wildfire risk, sequester carbon, incentivizes forest restoration, improve soil health, and create sustainable rural economies. The Lands Council is excited to share the news that a partnership between Avista’s Kettle Falls biomass plant and Myno Carbon Corp. is growing in the region to include the Colville Confederated Tribes and just recently WA DNR. This is a great example of all lands, all hands.
