LeClerc Creek Restoration Project

Last year, The Lands Council completed a restoration project on the West Branch of LeClerc Creek in Pend Oreille County. Near the Diamond City campground, a historic mill site had been filled with sediment over time - which narrowed the stream channel. Since this area is one of the few creeks in the Colville National Forest with known bull trout spawning, we worked with the US Forest Service to improve the stream conditions at this site. Old crib dams were excavated and removed, and over 600 trees with root wads intact were placed into the stream to create areas for spawning and stream heterogeneity. This is the first time The Lands Council has been involved with such a major restoration effort, and we are already looking forward to completing more work like this in the future.
