The Lands Council is launching a new program: Venture Outdoors - a new outdoor adventure challenge for K-12 students and their families.
We are pleased to unveil a new community-based outdoor adventure challenge entitled “Venture Outdoors.”
“In this unprecedented time of virtual learning, we are excited to offer not just students, but the entire family a safe outdoor adventure and opportunity to enjoy nature!” said Kat Hall, TLC’s Conservation & Education Director.
The plan is simple. Each month for the rest of 2020, TLC will choose 4-5 local outdoor adventure destinations and post a “web link to adventure” for each (containing information, highlights, map, directions, etc.) at www.landscouncil.org/adventure. Students choose one or more destinations and follow the adventure. They share a “selfie” holding a sign that says “Venture Outdoors with The Lands Council!” and post their photo on social media. Students are highly encouraged to take appropriate Safe Adventure Precautions for COVID (e.g. wearing masks, limiting group size, and social-distancing). Incentive prizes will be awarded to students in December based on the number of outdoor adventures safely accomplished and shared.
Outdoor Adventure Destinations include Liberty Lake Regional Park, Dishman Hills Natural Area, the Spokane River, and Riverside State Park. Many outdoor adventure destinations are accessible by walking, bicycling, and/or public transportation. Feeling stranded? Bus passes will be supplied by TLC as needed.
In addition to “Venture Outdoors” TLC will offer weekly tree plantings and additional field experiences during the month of October.
