Another Great Spokane River Clean-Up!

By Lindsay Box

Last Saturday, on a sunny, fall morning, we hosted the 19th Annual Spokane River Clean-Up - and it was a HUGE success! We had 546 volunteers picked up 3,900 pounds or 2 tons of garbage and recyclables!

2 tons = 1 adult rhinoceros; 4 adult polar bears; or 20 baby elephants!

But that’s not all! Our friends at the Spokane River Forum and Spokane Riverkeeper hosted a clean-up in the Valley. They had 184 volunteers clean up 1,500 pounds of garbage and recyclables. Such a big day for our amazing Spokane River!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their Saturday to help us with this major event. This event wouldn’t be possible without you! We also want to give a rhinoceros-size thank you to the City of Spokane for donating the trash pick up. Also, a big thanks to our community partners and supporters: American Rivers, Roast House Coffee, 1st Avenue Coffee, REI, Avista, SNAP, and Washington State Parks.

We’ll see you next year! Save the date for September 16th :)
