The Lands Council has been working with landowners in Stevens and Whitman counties to mitigate flooding and damage to vegetation, while keeping beaver in their homes. In addition to installing flow devices through dams to lower the water level behind dams, we partnered with Hancock Timber Management to harvest willow stems to prevent beaver damage to trees at our sites.

A 12 inch pipe placed through the dam will allow water to constantly flow through the dam and keep water behind the dam from flooding a nearby agricultural field.
