Birds, Bees, Flowers, and Trees

By Laura Ackerman

"Let me tell you 'bout the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees, and the moon up above.... Check out this video of Dean Martin singing this song and look at the checked black and white sofa on the set. My mother listened to Dean Martin when I was a kid, and I loved the birds and the bees song as did my siblings.

It's getting to be birds and bees time! Daylight Savings time begins March 14. I will be working more hours in April to work on making habitat better for the bees and other creatures on the Saranac second floor rooftop gardens.

Meanwhile, I am reading and making comments on three Oil Spill Contingency Plans, called C-Plans for short. If you are interested, you can read more about it here. Also, if any of you would like to sign on to comments or send in some yourselves (with some talking points from me), please let me know ASAP.

The Greenhouse Gas Assessment for Projects (GAP) rulemaking public hearing will occur approximately in May of this year and as far as we know, be virtual. Meanwhile a group of us in the state are organizing informational and educational meetings about it. More information from DOE is here:

The first online meeting was a big success, and we have two more on health and justice.

Register here for one or all of the events! Each event will be unique with a different action for participants to take.

We need Eastern Washington participation in both the meetings and eventually the online public hearing. If you have questions or comments about anything in this newsletter story, please email me at lackerman@landscouncil.org.

Think of the birds and bees and flowers and trees and find ways to enhance and celebrate them!
