This week, The Lands Council and City of Spokane Urban Forestry teamed up for THREE jam-packed, marathon days of tree planting in West Central and Northeast Spokane.
On Tuesday, October 12th, our teams and volunteers planted trees in the neighborhood near Dutch Jakes Park in West Central. And on Wednesday, October 13th and Thursday October 14th, we planted trees in the neighborhood surrounding Kehoe Park in Northeast Spokane. In total, we planted 45+ street trees and hundreds of SpokaneScape plants with drought tolerant landscaping.
If you’ve ever planted a street tree, you know how difficult this work is. We planted 6-8 feet tall Serviceberry, Linden, Espresso Kentucky Coffee, Tulip, and Emerald Sunshine Elm trees - digging huge holes in rock hard, rocky soil. Even better, on Wednesday, we planted in the cold, pouring rain (which actually made for good digging…). And all of this hard work was done by our amazing volunteers. We are so thankful for all of their hard work and we so enjoyed making awesome connections with our local environmentalist community. THANK YOU!
We are also so thankful for our sponsors who joined us this week! SpoCanopy is made possible by their support! Vanessa and Micheal from Townshend Winery planted with us on Wednesday, Kelly from The Wander Project planted with us on Thursday, and Avista joined in the fun on Thursday too! It is so wonderful to have each of their support in and out the field. THANK YOU!
