Summer is almost here and we know what that means - it’s farmers market season! Farmers markets are a great place to support your local community and get amazing, fresh products. Plus, Spokane has a market nearby every day of the week:
Shopping at farmers markets is also an easy, sustainable choice that you can make for yourself and your family. Farmers markets provide a resource for you to support your local community, provide a sustainable wage for farmers and gain access to environmentally friendly and healthy products.
Farmers selling at markets minimize the amount of waste and pollution they create. Many use certified organic practices, reducing the amount of synthetic pesticides and chemicals that pollute our soil and water. Also, a growing number are also adopting other low-impact practices, such as on-site composting, that help mitigate climate change and other environmental issues.
More reasons to support your Spokane farmers markets:
So fresh and so clean, clean - the fruits and vegetables that you buy at the market are in season and brought to you direct from the field.
Support local - buying directly from the farmers gives them a fighting chance to stay in business and continue to bring you the freshest of the fresh.
It’s good for Mother Earth - so many reasons, where to start? Conventional farming uses way more resources and can pollute our environment with toxic-agricultural by-products. It also uses a large amount of resources to get to you and creates trash with additional packaging. You can also find meats, cheeses, and eggs from animals that have been raised without hormones or antibiotics
Try something new! - you find an amazing array of produce that you won’t see in your average supermarket: red carrots, a rainbow of heirloom tomatoes, purple cauliflower, stinging nettles, green garlic, watermelon radishes, quail eggs, and much, much more!
Connect, learn, and grow - the market is a great place to bring your kids, meet farmers and your friends, and learn more about how and where your food comes from. Farmers markets are also a great resource for garden starts, recipes, and so much more!
