The Best Time to Plant a Tree is Now.

The wind. The rain. The cold.

If you joined us for our annual Reforest Spokane Day last Saturday, then you know what I am talking about. On Saturday morning, TLC staff arrived at Marshall Creek to pouring down rain, wind gusts, and much colder temperatures (see you later, summer…). While we had over 250 people signed up to volunteer online, we prepared ourselves for a less than stellar turnout and got ready for the event.

By 8:45 am, we had several groups of volunteers with shovels in hand and masks on, ready to plant. And volunteers did not stop arriving until 1:45 pm. College students, work volunteer groups, young kids, families… we had over 250 volunteers show up and show up in a big way. These dedicated volunteers planted every area that we had ready and got 1,500 native trees and shrubs into the ground. All while surviving the elements, getting covered in mud — and with a smile!

We cannot express how thankful we are for everyone who showed up and got dirty with us on Saturday morning. You have made such a big difference in this restoration project and for our regional environment. THANK YOU!

We also want to give a huge THANK YOU to our partner, Avista Utilities, for making this event happen. Their continued commitment and dedication to our local environment is unparalleled. We are so appreciative of their generosity and support.

Lastly, thank you to 1st Avenue Coffee and Roast House Coffee for providing drip coffee for our volunteers and hot coffee for our team leaders - you have no idea how much we needed it!
